Beautiful Wyolah Plantation

Beautiful Wyolah Plantation

Property located north of Natchez, MS and west of Fayette, in Church Hill, a quiet community just off HIghway 553. Constructed in the mid-19th century c. 1836 and touted as the “prettiest” house on the hill, Wyolah Plantation is one of MS’s most historically significant plantation complexes. This is based primarily on the remarkable survival of so many of the original plantation outbuildings, which include a doctor’s office, brick kitchen, commissary, carriage house, barn & 2 domestic houses. Main house is 2.5 stories w/front and rear double-tiered galleries. The double-pile plan offers a central hallway and rear “cabinet” rooms flanking each end of the double-tiered galleries. Just to the rear of the house is the plantation commissary. the detached 2-room kitchen is the only brick building. The doctor’s office in front of the main house contains original floor-to-ceiling oak-grained cabinets. This property is rich in history and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
